.Gh REGISTRY HISTORY

Internet connectivity in Ghana had initially evolved from email systems in 1992 to fully connected with 9.6kbps leased line in 1993 and with 128Kbps IP over Satellite in 1995 when the .GH registry was delegated.

The Registry has been an in-country operation from beginning till now.

Act 772 was passed in 2008 that defined a role for a Domain Name Registry.

On 23rd Jan 2012, there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Registry and NITA to transition .GH operations to NITA in which NITA hosts .GH registry facilities and as a Registrar for .gov, at no fee.

On May 2, 2019, Ministry of Communications & Digilalisation did not follow existing MOU and caused renegotiation of a new MOU with a new entity, GDNR.

Here is the consensus MOU between Registry and GDNR (21 Oct, 2021) and subsequent communications.
